Germany shows the success of Empowered programme in beach volleyball
Germany enters the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide with one of the largest and most balanced teams, reflecting the impact of FIVB Empowerment support.
Germany has arrived at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide with one of the largest and most balanced squads, underlining the progress of its national development system. The USD 168,000 in FIVB Empowerment funding allocated for 2024–2026 has helped strengthen a unified structure that continues to deliver international results for German beach volleyball.
German men’s teams lead with depth and experience
In the men’s field, Olympic silver medallists Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler headline Germany’s contingent. Following their podium finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the pair have maintained consistent form on the Beach Pro Tour and are among the top-ranked teams worldwide. They lead a strong lineup that also includes Paul Henning & Lui Wüst and Lukas Pfretzschner & Sven Winter, both duos showing steady progress through European and international events.
Women’s teams highlight balance and growth
Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann arrive in Adelaide as one of Europe’s most in-form pairs, fresh from their Beach Pro Tour Elite16 gold in Cape Town. Sharing their pool with compatriots Linda Bock and Louisa Lippmann, they represent the depth of Germany’s women’s programme. Lippmann’s transition from indoor volleyball has added valuable power and experience to the team. Sandra Ittlinger & Anna-Lena Grüne and the young duo Melanie Paul & Lea Sophie Kunst complete the women’s roster, showcasing both experience and future potential.
Empowered funding strengthens national structure
The Empowerment support has allowed Germany to operate a centralized, high-performance system under the leadership of programme supervisor Christoph Dieckmann, a former European champion and Olympian. Dieckmann oversees technical development, coaching alignment, and sports science integration, ensuring that all national team athletes train and compete at international standards. This structure has enhanced both elite-level competitiveness and the transition of emerging pairs to global competition.
Sustainable success through unified development
The German Volleyball Federation aims to maintain the long-term benefits of the Empowered programme by ensuring consistency in talent development, coaching quality, and international exposure. With seven teams across both men’s and women’s draws, Germany’s strong presence in Adelaide reflects the depth of its Empowered system and its commitment to sustained excellence on the world stage.

FIVB Legacy Art Project expands with new Manila mural
The FIVB Legacy Art Project expanded in Manila with a new mural in San Juan, as the community impact of the Men’s World Championship journey continues to be followed.
A new mural honouring the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship campaign of Alas Pilipinas was unveiled in San Juan City, marking the latest expansion of the FIVB Legacy Art Project. The development will be monitored for how it strengthens community engagement around the sport.
Located in Alley 2 of West Crame, the installation continues the collaboration between the FIVB, the FIVB Volleyball Foundation and artist Maya Carandang, whose MAYA100 initiative brings large-scale sports murals to local neighbourhoods. The artwork was created to highlight the connection between the national team and supporters during the tournament held on home soil.

A mural in San Juan highlights the FIVB Legacy Art Project’s expansion and the recent Men’s World Championship campaign of Alas Pilipinas.
Players Marck Espejo, Kim Malabunga, Josh Ybañez, Joshua Retamar, Leo Ordiales and Rwenzmel Taguibolos attended the unveiling, together with Alas Pilipinas head coach Angiolino Frigoni. Newly elected PNVF President Anthony Liao also joined the event and met members of the community.
The project follows an earlier mural completed in Parañaque, where an outdoor court was transformed into a full-scale painting featuring seven athletes from the Men’s World Championship, including Bryan Bagunas, Tomasz Fornal, Simone Giannelli, Ricardo Lucarelli, Jean Patry, Yuki Ishikawa and Erik Shoji.
In San Juan, the focus shifts directly to Alas Pilipinas and the momentum generated during the tournament. The placement of the mural within a dense residential area provides young players with daily access to a visible volleyball landmark and reinforces the sport’s presence in the community.
The expansion of the FIVB Legacy Art Project reflects the organisation’s aim to deliver long-term benefits for host cities by supporting initiatives that promote volleyball beyond competition arenas. Through the MAYA100 initiative, public artworks continue to contribute to the legacy of hosting the Men’s World Championship in the Philippines.

Dominio fin dall’avvio
Terzo set senza storia
Ruddins Mvp e Nwakalor monumentale a muro
Tabellino
Savino Del Bene Scandicci – Ruddins 14, Nwakalor 12, Bosetti 9, Skinner 8, Weitzel 7, Graziani 5, Ognjenovic 3, Ribechi (L).
Alba Blaj – Piani 16, Duduc 7, Brehme 5, Petric 4, Aronescu 3.
