Latvia make history with first-ever beach volleyball world title in Adelaide
Latvia’s Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova captured their nation’s first-ever beach volleyball world title in Adelaide, defeating USA’s Nuss and Brasher in a thrilling three-set final.
Latvia’s Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova have etched their names into beach volleyball history, securing their nation’s first-ever World Championship gold medal after defeating the USA’s Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher in a tense three-set final in Adelaide, Australia, on Sunday evening.
The fifth-seeded Latvian duo triumphed 2-1 (21-15, 15-21, 15-11) over the third-seeded Americans, capping off a flawless campaign in which they dropped only one set throughout the entire tournament. The win also marks Latvia’s first World Championship podium finish in any gender, signaling a breakthrough moment for the country’s volleyball program.
A new era for Latvian beach volleyball
Graudina and Samoilova’s victory symbolizes the rapid rise of Latvian beach volleyball, fueled by strategic development and support from the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme. Through this initiative, the Volleyball Federation of Latvia (LVF) received USD 168,000 in Coach Support funding to elevate the tactical and technical standards of its national teams. The women’s squad has been led by Spanish coach Daniel Luis Wood Rodriguez, while veteran Genadijs Samoilovs continues to guide the men’s program.
“This is unbelievable,” an emotional Tina Graudina told VBTV moments after the final whistle. “We had lost to them before, but today everything went right. It’s amazing!”
Her teammate Anastasija Samoilova added, “Big, big thank you to my partner, our coaches, and everyone supporting us in Latvia. We are the happiest people in the world right now.”
Nuss & Brasher take silver as Brazil claim bronze
For the United States, Nuss and Brasher’s silver medal adds to their bronze from the 2023 World Championships in Mexico — marking their second consecutive podium finish and the USA’s 14th women’s medal in tournament history.
Earlier in the day, Brazil celebrated its 19th women’s World Championship medal after Carol Solberg and Rebecca Cavalcanti secured bronze. The experienced Brazilian pair overcame compatriots Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes 2-0 (21-18, 22-20) in an all-Brazilian clash for third place.
Rebecca led the scoring with 19 points, while Carol contributed 15, including three blocks and an ace. “It’s been some amazing days here in Adelaide,” said Carol Solberg. “I’ve been playing for a long time and still love every moment on the court. This medal means a lot.”
Strong performances define the final
Anastasija Samoilova led all scorers in the gold medal match with 26 points, including three aces. Graudina added 21 points, featuring two aces and a decisive block. For the USA, Brasher matched Graudina’s 21 points, with Nuss adding 13 in a spirited effort.
Latvia’s victory not only crowns them world champions but also underscores the nation’s growing presence on the global stage — a symbol of how strategic investment and relentless determination can rewrite a country’s sporting history.

FIVB Legacy Art Project expands with new Manila mural
The FIVB Legacy Art Project expanded in Manila with a new mural in San Juan, as the community impact of the Men’s World Championship journey continues to be followed.
A new mural honouring the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship campaign of Alas Pilipinas was unveiled in San Juan City, marking the latest expansion of the FIVB Legacy Art Project. The development will be monitored for how it strengthens community engagement around the sport.
Located in Alley 2 of West Crame, the installation continues the collaboration between the FIVB, the FIVB Volleyball Foundation and artist Maya Carandang, whose MAYA100 initiative brings large-scale sports murals to local neighbourhoods. The artwork was created to highlight the connection between the national team and supporters during the tournament held on home soil.

A mural in San Juan highlights the FIVB Legacy Art Project’s expansion and the recent Men’s World Championship campaign of Alas Pilipinas.
Players Marck Espejo, Kim Malabunga, Josh Ybañez, Joshua Retamar, Leo Ordiales and Rwenzmel Taguibolos attended the unveiling, together with Alas Pilipinas head coach Angiolino Frigoni. Newly elected PNVF President Anthony Liao also joined the event and met members of the community.
The project follows an earlier mural completed in Parañaque, where an outdoor court was transformed into a full-scale painting featuring seven athletes from the Men’s World Championship, including Bryan Bagunas, Tomasz Fornal, Simone Giannelli, Ricardo Lucarelli, Jean Patry, Yuki Ishikawa and Erik Shoji.
In San Juan, the focus shifts directly to Alas Pilipinas and the momentum generated during the tournament. The placement of the mural within a dense residential area provides young players with daily access to a visible volleyball landmark and reinforces the sport’s presence in the community.
The expansion of the FIVB Legacy Art Project reflects the organisation’s aim to deliver long-term benefits for host cities by supporting initiatives that promote volleyball beyond competition arenas. Through the MAYA100 initiative, public artworks continue to contribute to the legacy of hosting the Men’s World Championship in the Philippines.

Dominio fin dall’avvio
Terzo set senza storia
Ruddins Mvp e Nwakalor monumentale a muro
Tabellino
Savino Del Bene Scandicci – Ruddins 14, Nwakalor 12, Bosetti 9, Skinner 8, Weitzel 7, Graziani 5, Ognjenovic 3, Ribechi (L).
Alba Blaj – Piani 16, Duduc 7, Brehme 5, Petric 4, Aronescu 3.
